Motel Rocks Review: Part One

When I was asked to pick out a couple of items of clothing to review for Student Fashion Blog from Motel Rocks, I went to the website and immediately clicked dresses as I always do. But as I was scrolling through the first page I though: ‘No! I need to stop buying dresses and buy something sensible for Autumn/Winter.’ So that’s what I did. I stopped half way down the first page and went to Knitwear. And that’s where I came across this jumper: Dara Jumper in Berry.

If you read my last post Transition into A/W: Burnt Colours, you probably realised that I’m really excited about the burnt and autumn leaves colours for this season. When I saw this jumper I immediately began imagining it with all sorts of different outfits specifically for Autumn/Winter; I can just imagine pairing it with mustard yellows, dark greens (Christmassy!) and browns. The colour is so eye-catching and goes with so many things (funny story: when I first received the item I was dressed as Alice in Wonderland for a fancy dress party, and when I got chilly at the end of the night I just whacked it on over the top…it really does go with anything!!).

The only problem that I have with it for these months is that it is slightly cropped; however this isn’t really much of a ‘problem’ for me because it’s on a rare occasion that I wear anything that isn’t high waisted or a dress, so my tummy’s always going to be covered and warm anyway!

I was also a bit unsure about how the arms of the jumper would look because they are loose knit so that they have quite large holes in them. I actually found that I liked this feature because it contrasted with the thick knit of the rest of the jumper so I find that overall it doesn’t look too bulky when you wear it like some jumpers do.

The way I’ve chosen to wear it here was a last minute adjustment! I was wearing it untucked and over the top of the skirt. Although this looked alright, it did make me feel a little as though I had no waist whatsoever! So I started by belting it over the skirt, which looked better, then I decided, since the skirt is a little big on my waist anyway, to try tucking it in, and hallelujah, it worked!! Not the usual way I’d wear a winter jumper, but it worked =D
